An impressive high mountain traverse with
the most beautiful peaks of the east Alps including the Grossvenediger
(3674 m), and Grossglockner (3798 m). With the Ski Route Hoch Tirol
we present a traverse in the east Alps, which goes from Kasern in Southtirol
through the fascinating peak and glacier landscape of the Venediger
Mountains to Grossglockner, the highest mountain in Austria, and ends
in the East Tirol village of Kals. This six-day tour requires good physical
condition, but rewards your efforts with daily 3000ers.
Day 1: The ski
route Hoch Tirol starts in Kasern in Ahrn Valley and follows an old
smugglers path over the Umbaldtörl to East Tirol and over the Reggentörl
to the Essener Rosstocker Hut. Not only is it cozier to stay in the
shelters, but you save yourself an extra ascent.
Day 2: The
second day brings an imposing scenic ski tour from the Essener Rosstocker
Hut to the Grossen Geiger (3360 m) and over the Türmljoch down
to the Johannis Hut. This is where we start out from to a highpoint
of this traverse on the third day.
Day 3:
From the Johannis Hut we'll pass the Defregger House to the Rainertörl
and onto the peak of the Gross venediger (3674 m) which is surely a
highpoint of the traverse Hoch Tirol. What follows now is the pure enjoyment
of a 2000 vertical meter descent down into Innergschlöss, the prettiest
valley end in the East Alps, but don't take our word for it; after this
descent your knees will be weak, and you'll have enough time to look
back from "Alm Village" Innergschlöss and decide for
yourself.
Day 4:
The goal today is the Matreier Tauernhaus at 1512 m above sea level.
Amazing how much you can look forward to a shower and soft bed! Take
especial advantage of the bed, because tomorrow there is a long but
rewarding ski tour awaiting you. From the Matreier Tauernhaus we go
up to the Daber Lake and Amertaler Höhe at 2784 m. After a short
descent into the Landeck Valley, there comes a not exactly flat ascent
to the Granat Ridge and then it's onwards to the peak of the Stubacher
Sonnblicks (3088 m); descent to the Rudolfs Hut.
Day 5:
Today begins with an easy ascent of the Granatspitze (30886 m) where
the view will wipe away all memory of yesterdays' efforts. Besides which,
there is a wonderful steep descent down the south flank to Dorfer Lake
just waiting for you. Last bit of the day is passing through the long
flat Dorfer Valley to the Kalser Tauernwirt where our Minibus will be
waiting to take you to the Luckner House. The thought of the crowning
glory of the week, the Grossglockner, should make the ascent to the
Stüdl Hut a little easier.
Day 6:
Crowning glory of the Ski Week Hoch Tirol is the ascent of Grossglockner,
Austria's highest mountain whose elevation is 3798 m above sea level.
It is for this scenic yet demanding high tour that you need to have
some climbing knowledge. The descent is from Adlersruhe out over the
Ködnitzkees to the Stüdl Hut and to the ending point of the
Ski route Hoch Tirol, the Luckner House. (Drinks all round!)
